Festive Friday: Christmas at my house

Wow, is it really just 4 more days till Christmas?! Between lack of time and lack of mojo and chasing after energetic puppies in the house, Christmas decorations this year are on the minimal side. I did put up one tree in the living room, where it’s protected from the puppies. And I hung a garland on the fireplace with colourful balls and some little starfish. But otherwise, decorations are low-key. And I actually kind of like it that way :-)

The living room is the most-decorated room in the house…

Oh, and those puppies I mentioned at the beginning of this post – sweet little Joey was adopted and went to his new home near Montreal yesterday. I know he’s going to have lots of fun and he’ll be getting LOTS of love in his new home. Miss ya lots little Joey – you’re the BEST snuggler!

We still have spunky John…

And now we have another one of their brothers, Myles. You’d never guess they’re from the same litter – John & Joey are little pork chops, Myles is a big Whopper!

We all had fun playing in the snow today :-)

And with that, I’m signing off for the holidays. I’ll be back in January with more room makeovers and DIY projects and furniture refreshes and puppies!

From my family to yours, Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah, Happy Kwanza, and everything else festive…

See you in 2013!

Oreo, Oh Oreo, how do I love thee

Lately I’ve come across some seriously sweet looking recipes featuring Oreos. Seriously, who doesn’t love Oreos?! Actually, it’s been a long time since I’ve eaten one, but it’s impossible to forget that yummy white cream center. When I was a kid, I’d pull the two cookies apart and then peel the filling off and save it till the very end. I still eat like that – whatever I like best gets eaten last.

So get out your KitchenAid and your stretchy pants and enjoy some Oreo decadence! Starting with a veritable Oreo orgy from Jenny at Picky Palate… here’s Double Cookies and Cream Kiss Cookie Bars  – yes, please!

Who wants regular Rice Krispie squares when you can have Cookies & Cream Rice Crispy Treats?!

How about a batch of Warm Baked Chocolate Chip Cookie Stuffed Oreos

If that’s too much decadence, there’s these Itty Bitty Oreo Stuffed Chocolate Chip Cookies.

Want more? OK! How about Dreamy Oreo Brownies from Shelly at Cookies & Cups.

Oreo Cheesecake Cookies from Stephanie at Stephanie Cooks.

Oreos for breakfast? Sure, why not?! When they’re Oreo Cookie Pancakes from at Dana & John at Minimalist Baker!

Ooey-gooey Individual Oreo Turtle Cheesecakes from Lauren at Lauren’s Latest – mmmmm, caramel!

Oreo Turtle Cheesecakes Final 3

And what the heck – why not go all out and make one great big Cookies & Cream Oreo Look-Alike Cake from Michelle at Brown Eyed Baker.

If I only had the time and metabolism to taste-test all of these for you! But judging by the pictures, I’m pretty sure each and every one of these Oreo creations is freakin’ awesome!

Happy baking!

A six year old’s dream

I wasn’t going to blog about the tragedy that has rocked us all - there’s been so much sadness bombarding us every day since last Friday, I didn’t want to add to it. But I just saw a post on Facebook that really tugged at my heartstrings, and I wanted to share it with you.

Six year old redhead Catherine Hubbard wanted to open an animal shelter when she grew up. Her parents have requested that people who would like to honour Catherine make a donation to The Animal Center in Newtown, CT. It won’t help Catherine’s parents overcome their immense grief, but maybe it will help a little bit for them to see that people want to help make Catherine’s dream to help animals in need come true. It’s a beautiful tribute to a sweet little girl who had a heart full of love for our furry friends.

The Pensive Penguin

Last Friday, I went to the Originals Craft Show here in Ottawa. FYI, the CE Centre or whatever they’re calling it now SUCKS. Anyway, I was drawn to the booth of artist Cori Lee Marvin. Her watercolours are so detailed and true-to-life, it’s hard to believe they’re paintings. I couldn’t stop looking at her sweet Pensive Penguin print, but ended up leaving him behind because I don’t really have a spot where I can hang him. Well, after thinking about him for a week, I just had to go back and buy him, and I’ll just need to find a spot for him :-) For now, he’s on my RAST chest in the front entry.

Isn’t he adorable?! Here are some more of Cori’s prints – they’re all so pretty and charming :-)
