Fab Furniture Friday with schue love

After a little hiatus last week, I’m back with a great Fab Furniture Friday makeover to share with you. Natasha Schue writes the blog schue love – it’s all about fashion & food & home decor. When I saw the hutch makeover that Natasha did, I knew it would be perfect for Fab Furniture Friday :-)

This is the hutch before. There’s really nothing wrong with it – it’s actually quite a nice piece.

But Natasha made a good thing even better by painting the hutch black. Now, it looks like this:

hutch

Pretty sweet, eh? Love how the black hutch stands out against the light wall, and how the white ceramic ware stands out against the black hutch. And check out this great detail – Natasha dressed up the back of the hutch with beautiful wallpaper.

Love how both the colour and the wallpaper really update the hutch and give it a more modern look and feel. Natasha did a great job styling the hutch as well…

Another great example of how some paint and creativity can transform a piece of furniture into a FAB piece of furniture!

Awesome job, Natasha!

Fab Furniture Friday with Switch Studio

My friend Staci at {inspired by life} recently started a new business called Switch Studio. She refinishes and reupholsters pieces of furniture and gives them a brand new & fresh lease on life.

Check out these {not so great} Befores & {awesome} Afters, starting with a cute little stool.

Fab Furniture Friday with The Painted Hive

Here’s a great Fab Furniture Friday project that will inspire you to either try something similar or to call a travel agent and book a vacation – or both! Kristine at The Painted Hive found this beat-up cabinet in a gutter:

And turned it into this piece of gorgeousness.

But wait – here’s the best part. The wood on the top had been sanded within an inch of its life, complete with exposed veneer and gouge marks.

Kristine came up with the idea to use wrapping paper to cover the damaged wood. Sometimes problem solving leads to the best & most creative ideas :-) Check this out:

How cool is that?! The map adds so much character, and really makes this cabinet unique.

And the perfect little finishing detail – Kristine created these awesome compass knobs.

Fab Furniture Friday

Lately I’ve been thinking less about decorating and more about furniture. More precisely, refinishing furniture. I’ve seen so many fantastic furniture makeovers floating around the blogosphere, and I find the more I see, the more ideas I get for doing my own furniture makeovers. Not that I have any on the go at the moment – my $1,000,000 table and $2,000,000 chairs took me over two years to finish, so I really need to take a break ;-)

So, I thought I’d start a blog feature that’s all about fab furniture makeovers. And seeing as Friday starts with an F, I decided to make Friday my fab furniture day. So here it is, the first installment of Fab Furniture Friday featuring five fabulous furniture finds. OMG, that’s way too many F words {but at least I didn’t use THAT F word ;-) }

Possibly my very favourite furniture makeover ever – I’ve posted it before, but it’s so fab that it needs to be posted again. By Janell at Isabella & Max Rooms (and also the founding editor of House of Fifty magazine). Janell turned this:

Jill at Live. Like. You. bought this old desk:

And gave it a serious colour makeover – love the orange and the hardware. And the turquoise chair and white ceramic dog are pretty fab too :-)

And I have to share some fab makeovers by my friends and TBBs, starting with Donna at dh designs. I love the Celtic knot detailing and the curvy front on this dresser that she found on Kijiji:

The dresser now has a new look and a new home in Donna’s master bedroom.

More Celtic knot prettiness from Lisa at Lisa Goulet Design. She started with this dresser:

And then painted it and embellished it with Celtic detailing and crystal knobs.

And the final fab furniture makeover is from Maureen at Maureen at Modecor Muses. She made over this vanity that used to belong to her grandmother.

Doesn’t it look fantastic in blue, especially against the gorgeous red wallpaper?

If you’ve taken an old piece of furniture and given it a fab makeover, I’d love to see it and share it with my JAX does design readers. Click here to send me some before and after pictures of the piece and the story behind it, and I’ll include it in an upcoming Fab Furniture Friday feature.

Happy weekend!
