This or That: Mirror mirror on the wall

Thanks for all the wood shelf support last week :-) Unfortunately, hubby isn’t budging on his anti-wood shelf stance. Boo! Men can be so stubborn! But I guess I’ve gotten most of what I want in the room up to this point {hello sparkly girly chandeliers!}, so I suppose I can let him have this one ;-) I’m still at a roadblock with the horizontal vs vertical niches – luckily, I don’t need to make a final decision yet. And now there’s this new idea in the mix – what do you think of the curved surround behind the tub in this bathroom?

This week’s This or That is all about mirrors…

Do you prefer the look of of one long mirror that goes right across a double vanity, or a mirror above each sink?

Wham-Bam Bathroom Glam

Thanks for all the positive feedback about my ocean-inspired DIY art. If you were inspired to do something similar yourself, please be sure to share your project with me when it’s done – I’d love to see it!

The word “bathroom” doesn’t usually conjure up images of a place you really want to spend a whole lot of time. Or maybe that’s just me, seeing as our bathroom has dark green marble tiles and the absolute worst shower design ever and a bidet that’s only ever been used for entertainment at parties (don’t ask!) But if I had a glamourous bathroom, I might re-think that whole in-and-out-as-fast-as-possible approach.

Maybe the bathroom isn’t the best place to be surrounded by mirrors, but it sure is glam! Especially when it’s a tub surround!

This is an unusual & glam look – a floating vanity installed in front of a huge mirror.

I love the look of windows mounted in front of windows. (I saved this picture ages ago and just realized now that there aren’t really two toilets in the room, that’s a huge mirror on the wall!)

Can you guess where this glamourous bathroom is? It’s in a restaurant called Pizza by Elizabeths in Greenville, Delaware! It’s so glam, even the wallpaper has mirrors (Go Baroque in Mirror by Schumacher). And notice the vanity support is mirrored too.

Not a mirror, but this silver sink is seriously gorgeous & glamourous, so I have to include it too :-)

And finally, this has to be the ultimate wham-bam bathroom glam by Chicago interior designer Jessica Legrange.

Now excuse me while I go tear out my ugly and most definitely NON-glam bathroom!

Mirror, mirror on the bed

It was interesting reading the comments on my last post with the turquoise bedroom. Some people loved the mirrored bed, others not so much. So I thought I’d take a look around and see if I could find some more mirrored beds that might help sway those of you who weren’t so into the mirrored bed in that room.

First up, some more takes on the mirrored four poster bed…

The Hooker Mirrored Four Poster Bed. The mirror above the dresser is pretty cool too, and love the cubes.

The Prism Bed designed by Nancy Corzine was inspired by the Chrysler Building in New York City. This is Nancy’s bedroom – the shade of blue of the bedding and headboard is so beautiful.

Another bedroom designed by Nancy. I’m also diggin’ the lucite side table, which are Nancy’s design as well.

I’m pretty sure this is the Prism bed too.

If a four poster bed is too much mirror, how about just a mirrored headboard & foot board? Here’s the Temple Bed from Julian Chichester.

Or this bed from Amy Howard.

Or how about just a headboard?

One more option – a decorative mirror behind the bed.

So, what do you think – Yay or Nay to a mirrored bed?

And speaking of beds… I mentioned last week that I’m a finalist in the HomeSense Shopper Showdown contest. The Bedroom Challenge is on and voting is open. I’d REALLY appreciate all the votes I can get, so if you like my bedroom, please vote for me!

Design reflections: Decorating with mirrors

WOW!! A great big THANK YOU to everyone who’s joined me here at JAX does design. I can’t begin to tell you how much I appreciate it! And I’m so touched by all of your wonderful comments :-) Blog buddies are the best! An extra thank you to Kat from Emptynester for being my very first commenter, and to Caleigh for sending me pics of her pug, Louie, to add to my Furry Friends page. You have to check him out, he’s adorable!

Hmmm… so I guess I’m going to have to write something for you to read! ;-) OK, how about this – mirrors.

Mirrors add sparkle to a room. They can make a smaller room appear larger. When a mirror reflects a window, it helps bring more light into the room. Wherever you hang a mirror, make sure it reflects something beautiful…

I absolutely love the look of layered mirrors. They’re so glam, and there’s a depth to them that you don’t get with one mirror. This layered bathroom mirror is especially beautiful, because there’s also a sconce installed on the mirror – upping the look from glam to  super-glam!

An ornate gold mirror looks great layered on top of a modern mirrored chimney breast.

Here’s another gold mirror layered with a large white mirror.

And how freaky is this – here’s the exact same mirror layered against two simple white mirrors. (Hmmmm… even the vase on the mantel is the same in both pictures.) The sleek black mantel and zebra print ottoman give this room a modern feel.

How sexy is this room with layered mirrors – even the mantel is mirrored!

Here’s an oval mirror layered on a rectangular mirror. Do you see the triangle created by the stools, lamps, and gold mirror? I think the triangle helps carry your eye right from the floor to the top of the mirror, and it lets you take in all the pretty elements in this vignette.

Here’s a super-ornate mirror layered on top of a simple mirror. Don’t you love the effect it creates? :-)

Another mirror & sconce combination. I love this look!

More layered mirrors in the bathroom – maybe his & hers?

I posted this picture from Carter & Company on DesignTies recently. It’s so beautiful, I have to include it here!

Another way to layer mirrors is by leaning them against each other. This has a more casual look and feel. And it’s a lot easier than hanging them!

Layer leaning mirrors on the floor – why not?!

Here’s a twist on layered mirrors – artwork hung on top of a mirror.

How about this for a sweet look – mirrors hung in front of windows. This is the room that got me hooked on this look. It’s Patricia Gray’s bathroom, and it’s beautiful!

I think I love the concrete vanity in this bathroom as much as the mirror!

Heheheh! These mirrors look like eyes! OMG, is it just me, or do the mirrors and vanity look like a frog face?!

And finally, you can’t have a make-up vanity without a mirror!

(Karen at Ocean Soul left a comment mentioning the mirrors in the bathroom in the Coastal Living Ultimate Beach House. Thanks Karen – here they are!)

Hubby and I did a little project on the weekend inspired by my love for layered mirrors. I’ll be posting about it on Monday, along with instructions on how a professional creates this look and how we did it. It sometimes helps to have an uber-analytical hubby!

So what do you think – would you incorporate layered mirrors into your home?
