Bubblelicious fireplace mantel

I just discovered that The Lettered Cottage is having a summer mantel link party. I’m at the cottage and only have one camera and memory card with me, and not all my mantel pictures are on my laptop. But I don’t want to miss out on the fun, so I’ve put together some pictures that I have on hand.

After we finished making over our fireplace this past winter, I couldn’t figure out what to hang above the mantel. I wanted it to be something different and unexpected. And then I came across an awesome bubble “light fixture” project by Jenna at Homeslice, and it was a total AH-HA! moment :-)

This is how my bubble project turned out. If you’d like to read about how hubby and I put it all together, click here.

Someone suggested hanging a mirror on the wall to reflect the bubbles. Great idea! I found one on Kijiji that was the perfect size – sold for $35!

Oh yeah, double the bubbleliciousness! But figuring out how to style the mantel was a big pain – it was too plain with nothing, but I didn’t want it cluttered and overshadowing the bubbles. I decided to keep with the bubbly theme and display my glass floats.

This is the best picture that I have on hand of the whole mantel. I took it a few weeks ago when I had an art party at my house – hence all the art!

And that’s my summer mantel. Head on over to The Lettered Cottage to get lots of great summer mantel inspiration :-)

  2. I love your bubbles, and of course, your glass floats too! I never would have thought to do the bubbles, but they are so much fun, and with the mirror in behind they just make a great statement. Have fun at the cottage, and I hope you're relaxing in the sun :-)

  13. I adore the floating bubbles - but I know this is a boring question - how do you clean them - mine would be thick with dust and floating pet hair in no time !!

    1. Ah yes, the dusting part! I don't do it as often as I should! I use a Swiffer duster. I hold a glass ball, dust it, and then let it go and move onto the next ball. Sometimes they start swinging back & forth and bumping into each other, which freaks me out! But so far, no casualties :-)

    1. Kelly, all my floats are vintage working floats. I haven't found any of them myself - they're all from Etsy & Ebay sellers.

  16. Looks amazing! I did a similar idea for a project for CANFAR-hugo boss (www.bizbash.com/boss-hugo-boss-dining-room-at-canfars-bloor-street-entertains/gallery/82500) except we put tea light candles in there as a light fixture for the dinner party! Where did you purchase the color bubbles...i really like those. Great post!

    1. I checked out your light fixture - very nice :-) The room must have looked spectacular with all the candles lit :-) The coloured bubbles on my mantel are glass fishing floats. I've bought them from sellers on Etsy and Ebay.
