This was one of those weekends where everything went wrong. Hubby and I had a sort of depressing visit with his mom in Guelph on Friday & Saturday – getting old sucks :-( The furry somethings that were supposed to arrive on Saturday night missed their transport and are still in Kentucky. And on Sunday my laptop crashed and burned, along with ALL my pictures. Toby pictures, Malcolm pictures, before & after project pictures… I HATE TECHNOLOGY! Hubby is trying to save as many files as he can from the laptop, so hopefully it’s not a total loss.
That being said, my blog post plans for the week are kinda screwed up. So I’ll be winging it, starting with today’s little-bit-of-this-and-that post…
Heather at Setting for Four and I met up at C&M Textiles last week to look for some drapery fabrics for her new home and for my master bathroom. We both found some nice ones, which of course are super-expensive. Why does that always happen!? In spite of the $151.98/yd price tag (YIKES!), I brought home a sample of Helena, as well as the comparatively bargain priced Zippy at $39.98/yd. And then I remembered I had ordered a sample of a pretty blue fabric called Theo a while back from Tonic Living for another project. And I think we have a winner! Because not only is Theo’s colour a perfect match to the accent tiles in the bathroom, his price is pretty close to perfect too – $17.95/yd.
Speaking of perfect colour matches… I’m seriously in love with the combination of these two colours from PARA Paints: P5021-41D Shopping Spree on the left and P5044-62 Leek on the right.
I’ve been working on another PARA Paints Blog Crew project using these colours that I’ll hopefully finish this coming weekend. Although the way things gave been going lately, no guarantees!
Christine at Bijou and Boheme had a big multi-day giveaway a few weeks ago, and I won a prize – Woot! It’s a book by Canadian designer Eileen Marshall called Dancing with Design.
Not only does the book have lots of great advice on how to create a unique home, but there are some lovely renderings and drawings as well…
Thank you Christine and Eileen!
And I was so happy to receive a wonderful update from Malcolm’s new family yesterday. He’s doing amazing in his new home, and gets along great with his new Catahoula brother :-) Yay Malcolm! ♥

Oh my gosh, Kelly! You have had a lot of gray in your days :-( I admire you for getting this post out after all that. Way to go, my friend! And you know what, Theo is awesome with the tile - not a bad fit at all! Congratulations on the book win - it looks like a fun read, and the renderings are great - they remind me of the 'Perfectly Imperfect Home'... I hope the rest of your week puts the last few days right in their place, way at the back where they belong!!!
ReplyDeleteIt looks like a fun reads book. Congratulation on the book win!!!!!
ReplyDeleteoh fiddle farts Kelly. Doesn't sound like the kind of weekend that would bring any smiles at all.
ReplyDeleteGreat to know Malcolm is doing well though.
Hey, although my first choice for fabric would be the uber expensive Helena, I must say that the next best is definitely the Theo. Very nice. (Diane over on the west coast)
Booo on your computer! We had to take mine to the Geek Squad at Best Buy and $1,500 saved all my files. :-( Good luck!
ReplyDeleteWhy is fabric so darn expensive and while we are at it... why are barstools so expensive??????
Love the fabric and the paint combos! Congrats on your win! Looks like a great resource!
Yeah for Malcolm! I know you miss him, but sounds like he has found a perfect place!
You won sommething again? Too bad your luck didn't carry over to your laptop. I use Carbonite for backup because I live in feat (okay, an exaggeration) of losing my photos in a crash.
ReplyDeleteThe fabrics are all lovely. And so is that color combo. So modern.
Can you educate the rest of us about fabric prices? Is it the textile quality, the design, weight, drape, finish, dyes, fiber, status, or what, that bumps prices high on some?
Sending best wishes for good luck on all fronts.
Sorry your weekend was crappy. Hope your hubby's Mom is doing okay and that you managed to save your photos. Technology is great when it's working but when it's not... All the fabric choices are great and good to hear that Malcolm is doing well. And that book looks great.
ReplyDeleteCheers, Lisa
Kelly- such ups and downs for you this last week! Good luck with the tech stuff, and best wishes for family health.
ReplyDeleteThat Malcolm sure is a cutie. You must feel so great about his progress.
And... Cool book! I'll have to check it out.

I love the colours on your paint brushes and I adore the pic of Malcolm but all my sympathy re the lap top crash - nothing worse is there when our lives are in it and on it !!
