Last weekend was my first weekend home since June, and I was seriously at a loss for what to do with myself. I’m so used to being at the cottage for the weekend, it was weird adjusting to NOT being at the cottage. Have I mentioned that I hate this time of the year? Anyway, I have some projects lined up for this weekend that will keep me busy. Do you remember this little chair my cousin’s wife gave me?
It’s been sanded and painted, and after a few little finishing touches this weekend, it’ll be ready for its debut :-) Finally, my first PARA Paints Blog Crew project will be done! I also found out some interesting info about this little chair that I’ll share with you at its reveal.
Then there’s this little somethin’-somethin’ that arrived earlier this week…
When I had the opportunity to get some free samples of Annie Sloan Chalk Paint, I wasn’t going to say no! I chose Paris Grey and Old White to use on the vanity that hubby is going to make for our master bathroom. But I can’t wait that long to try out the paint, so I’m going to pull an old piece of furniture out of our stash in the basement and try out the paint this weekend. I kinda like the look of this frame painted Paris Grey & Old White and antiqued…

The urge to do a painting hit me big-time last Monday, so I pulled out a canvas and some paints and tried my hand at a little ocean-inspired piece. I’ve already got one request from a friend to create a similar painting for her :-)
And speaking of ocean-inspired, I recently won a glass float on Ebay, which led to me buying a second glass float from the same seller. And when I opened the box on Tuesday, SURPRISE, there was a third glass float tossed in!
I’ll also be out looking for tiles this weekend. When I called to order the accent tiles for the bathroom floor, I found out that they’re out of stock and won’t be back in stock for at least three months. What is up with the tile supply in Ottawa?! I’m hoping to find the same tiles somewhere else, because I REALLY don’t want to have to re-think the floor AGAIN! By the way, layout #6 seems to be the most popular choice…

And to wrap things up for the week, hubby and I were married 11 years ago today. It was such a surreal day, being three days after the tragedy of 9/11. I was actually sitting in our living room making centrepieces for the reception when hubby came downstairs and told me that a plane had slammed into the World Trade Center. Thankfully nobody we know was hurt or killed, but we were still touched by the after-effects of that day. I remember waking up on the morning of our wedding day and hearing on the radio that Prime Minister Jean Chretien had proclaimed September 14, 2001 a National Day of Mourning. Would have much preferred being married on a National Day of Fun & Happy Stuff, but what can you do?! A few years ago, we went to Nova Scotia to celebrate our anniversary and we stopped at the memorial to the victims of Swiss Air Flight 111 – it just happened to be on September 11th, which was a goosebump-inducing experience. I snapped this picture while we were there – I love how the clouds seem to be emanating out from the memorial…

So paint projects and anniversary celebrations are my plans for the weekend. Oh, and I’ll also be tracking down and killing this damn housefly that won’t leave me alone. Fingers crossed I’ll have some “afters” to post on Monday. But not an “after” of the dead housefly. That would be gross.
Happy weekend!

Happy Anniversary!! Sounds like you've got some fun projects lined up -- I'm going to purge my basement and hold a garage sale tomorrow morning
ReplyDelete& hopefully make some cash for projects, lol!
On another note, my dad investigated the Swiss Air crash, it took up about 5 years of his life!
Wow, Kelly - lots going on! LOVE your painting! I also love to paint water, here's one I posted about http://lifeovereasy.com/2012/05/artist-fits-budget/ And happy anniversary! Mine is also coming up on September 19. Hope you have a great day!
ReplyDelete*GASP* LOVE the new painting Kelly!!! Happy Anniversary :) Have a fabulous weekend.
ReplyDeleteThanks! I'm working on a couple more similar paintings. We had a great anniversary dinner on Friday, and I ended up getting a new camera, so it's been a pretty good weekend! Hope you're having a good one too :-)

New carmera!? Show us :) Cannon? Nikon? Sony?
DeleteI love your sea painting!! Gorgeous. And happy anniversary!! 9/11 and flight 111 (being Swiss and all) are both goosebump to me. Just the thought that so many people died together in one spot.
ReplyDelete"goosebumpy"...
ReplyDeleteHappy, happy anniversary Kelly! My hubs and I celebrate #3 on the 18th (2nd time around for each of us). I hope your day is full of all things that make you smile :-) Your ocean painting is just gorgeous - you've captured something very special in it. And... you have a rolling pin glass float - those ones are quite rare! More beauties for your collection! I hope you have a great weekend, and I'm dying to know more about your chair!
ReplyDeleteHappy Anniversary!!!! Tom and I will be celebrating our 18th anniversary this January! That is crazy because I just CAN'T be old enough to be married for so long! Ha! I love your glass floats, but I am really really loving your painting!!!!! You could sell those. Seriously... that is stunning!!!
ReplyDeleteWonderful painting Kelly! Sorry to hear about your accent tile being out of stock but personally I find it very typical when living in our area. Being Canada's Capital City you would hope we could do better when it comes to supply and demand ... BUT .... unfortunately it doesn't seem to be the case.
ReplyDeleteAlso a Happy Anniversay to you and Brian! The hub and I just celebrated our 41st Wedding Anniversay which happened to be on Sept. 11th so have a general idea how you must have felt when making 'a trip down the aisle' only three days into the aftermath of 9/11. (That year was the first Anniversary that we didn't celebrate.)
HAVE A SUPER WEEKEND. -Brenda-
Have a great anniversary weekend - I hope you get to visit a great restaurant to celebrate in style !
ReplyDeleteHappy anniversary to your both! Interesting story.
ReplyDeleteI am nuts about your sea painting, and I am telling you right now that I plan to copy it as closely as I can.
Hurray for #6. And good luck getting your tile without a wait. We are all waiting to see what you do with that chair and the paint.
The store I do styling for just got in chalk paint and the effect of it is amazing. Can't wait to see the chair when your done.
ReplyDeleteHappy Anniversary! I didn't realize you guys were married right after Sept 11. Excited to see your little chair makeover and the chalk paint reveal. I've been thinking about using it for my vanity as well. Love the painting, it is beautiful! Happy Weekend!
ReplyDeleteSounds like despite the tragic situation you have made your own memories and turned it around into a happy life situation...congrats!
ReplyDeleteLove your projects and the fact that you have plans and stick with them until they are done...cant's wait to see the results!
Happy Anniversary Kelly! You are quite the artist! And I can't wait to see your Annie Sloan project. :)
ReplyDeleteA belated happy anniversary Kelly! Wow that must have been hard at first to have your wedding right after Sept 11th, however, I'm sure it must have lifted alot of people's spirits to have a fun celebration to go too. That memorial photo is really something.
ReplyDeleteAnd I can't believe you are having more tile problems!! Ahh the stories you will have from renovating your bathroom.
Many happy returns for you and your hubby!
:)
