You know how sometimes you know that something needs a little somethin'-somethin' to kick it up a notch, but you're not sure what? Well, I've been thinking for a while that the TV wall in our family room needs a little somethin-somethin' more than just the TV. We hung the TV low on the wall so that it's at the perfect viewing height from the sofa. But the ceiling in the family room is about 10 feet high, so that's a lot of empty wall space.
So anyway, I was over at
refresheddesigns yesterday, and as soon as I saw the art on Kelly's TV wall, it was like, BAM, that's what I need to do! Hang art!
I have some paintings and prints that that didn't make it onto
the gallery wall in the hallway, plus I've bought some new pieces in the last few weeks, and I have a bunch of my own paintings that all need homes. So I think they're going to be adopted by the TV wall :-)
Here are some more examples of TV art walls. I really like the simplicity and boldness of the art on this wall (plus I LOVE this whole home!)
I wouldn't be able to wrap the artwork from the TV wall onto the adjoining wall, but I really like this look.
The TV almost disappears in this arrangement of artwork with mismatched frames placed tightly together.
This art wall is a bit more formal with the matching frames, but also sort of relaxed with the spacing between each piece and asymmetrical layout.
So there's another project to add to my never-ending to-do list! Do you like the look of a TV art wall?
I love this idea so much that I sort of did it myself on my tv wall. I haven't really completed it but I've gotten it started. It really does help not make the tv a big black hole on the wall. Can't wait to see how yours shapes up Kelly.
ReplyDeleteI love this idea! My husband suggested hanging one BIG piece of art above the TV, but it didn't work in my head... I wonder if I can convince him to hang another gallery wall with the tv! I'll keep you updated.
ReplyDeleteI think Kelly has really nailed the look by layering her TV with her art. To me that's what pulls the TV into the gallery and makes it feel like it belongs along with the rest of the pieces... Great post, and I'm looking forward to seeing what you do in your space!
ReplyDeletethis is my first time visiting your blog and its definitely a great find! First, I really like the color you've chosen for you wall. Photo #3 and #6 are my favorite...... im not sure about adding colorful art work around the TV b/c personally i think it will be very distracting while watching tv (especially during NBA/NFL playoffs...lol) but i think if you do family photographs around the tv will be nice :) of course with variation of sizes.
ReplyDeleteThanks for visiting and good to hear you like my blog :-) The wall colour is BM Silver Marlin - it changes colour from grey to green to turquoise over the course of the day. I think I'll do some mock-ups of the TV wall to try out some different layouts. I don't want to hammer any nails into the wall until it's just right!
DeleteKelly
That's a good idea..doing a mock idea first. Keep us posted Kelly, excited to see the progress :)
DeleteYes definitely enjoy a little eye candy on top of my tv otherwise it looks plain and boring. Love what Kelly did to hers :)
ReplyDeleteOh wow, I've never seen this before. But I'm totally digging it! Can't wait to see how yours turns out!
ReplyDeleteOh and I'm a subscriber now! Yay!
ReplyDeleteMy knee-jerk reaction was "it would be too much of a distraction" however after seeing it, I feel it definitely can work and far more pleasant on the eye than if the screen was in a Wall Unit and surrounded by a lot of miscellaneous.
ReplyDeleteTerrific post Kelly and hopefully you will be featuring your completed wall with an explanation of the process as I am sure yours will be fab. Hugs -Brenda-
I think if it's done right, a TV art wall can look really good. You just have to be careful about the type of art and how you position it on the wall. You want to camouflage the TV when it's off, but not detract from the TV when it's on. Should be easy! ;-) Kelly at refresheddesigns really did a great job with her wall.
DeleteAnd yes, I'll post a tutorial when I'm done :-)
Kelly
Love to see the art wall you'll create, Kelly! Your gorgeous photography and artwork will definitely enhance the television surround! ;) Can't wait to see it!
ReplyDeleteI am crazy about this wall art - if you described it only, it would sound so OTT but seeing it you realize that it can work brilliantly.
ReplyDeleteI'm thinking of using a classic quote in vinyl to bring the space between the top of the t.v. and the ceiling a little closer together. I haven't seen this on the net yet, I think it could look nice. Any thoughts? I can send pics...
ReplyDeletePicture frames is very amazing because it can improve the view of the house. And also it can give looks cool especially if your tv is on your wall.
