Before getting to today's post, I want to thank everyone who stopped in at JAX over the last couple of days to check out my RAST hack. I think it's my most popular blog post ever! And two extra thank yous to Kristi at Addicted 2 Decorating for featuring Mr. RAST on her blog, and Olga at Stardust - Decor & Style for asking me to guest post about Mr. RAST and some of my other projects. I love how bloggers support each other :-) Of course, you know what this means - all the fame and glory has gone right Mr. RAST's head...

OK, now onto today's business... my name is Kelly and I'm addicted to Homestyler. I don't want to be a bad influence or anything, but you really should go over and check it out so you can be addicted too. It's more fun being addicted together, don't you think?

| Let's be unbelievably adorable Labahoula puppies addicted to Homestyler together! |
So what's Homestyler, you might ask? Well, it's a super-cool and easy-to-use free online program that lets you design room layouts. My favourite part is that with the click of a button, your 2D layout turns into a 3D view of the room that you can spin around and look at from eight angles. SO COOL! And it's so easy to use, which is perfect for someone like me with the attention span of a flea. I just don't have the patience to read user guides. I figured out the basics just by playing around. A click here, a drag there, and that's all there is to it!
Here's the 2D view of a bathroom layout that I created:
And here's my favourite part - with the click of a button, my 2D layout is magically transformed into 3D!
It's not 100% perfect - you're limited to the available furnishings, accessories, paint colours, etc. And did you notice that the vase of flowers is hovering above the countertop? Either they're magic flowers or it's a little glitch ;-) But if you're like me and have trouble visualizing a room without seeing it right in front of you, Homestyler is just what you need :-)

I just saw your dresser project on your previous post and wow, she is a beauty!
ReplyDeleteI have not heard of homestyler but going to check that out! Thanks for sharing
Thanks for the Homestyle link Kelly. I am definitely going to give it a whirl. -Brenda-
ReplyDeleteP.S: I like the idea of a levitating vase of flowers, as it certainly would make the chore of dusting a lot easier. Winks!
I just love Mr. Rast! Congrats on your features as well! Thanks for sharing the homestyler with me.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on all the special features for Mr. Rast. Hope he isn't too hard to live with ;-)
ReplyDeleteThanks for telling us all about Homestyler, not sure if I have any more time to be addicted to any more online sites but I'll probably check it out anyways. I guess sleep is overrated...
That's so fun about Mr. Rast! Funny how we both posted about online floorplans today! Great minds think alike :)
ReplyDeleteI was going to call Mr. Rast the belle of the blog world ball ... but he's a he so I guess we can just crown him King for the week!
ReplyDeleteI'm going to pin this so I remember to go back and play with it. Along with that Olio thingamathingy to create design boards ...
:)
Linda
Thanks for sharing this with us Kelly and congrats on the guest post! Besides this program that you use....do you use any other types of programs to create a floor plan?
ReplyDeleteI've tried a few different floor plan programs, but they're all either too complicated (for me!) or don't do what I want them to do. Homestyler is exactly what I was looking for - it's easy to use (I didn't even read instructions, just figured it out as I went along), and I love the 3D views. You can even take a picture of your room that looks almost like the real thing. Totally cool!
DeleteSome other programs that you might want to check out are Google SketchUp and Smart Draw.
Kelly
I tried out this program over the weekend and you're right its SO MUCH easier to handle than google sketchup omgosh. Thanks for the recommendation! How was fathers day weekend for you?
DeleteIsn't it great!? I'm totally addicted to it - I love the snapshots, they REALLY capture how the room will look in real life. Father's Day weekend was great! Spent it at the cottage with my hubby, our dogs, and my dad :-)
DeleteKelly
Do we get a puppy to help us with our addiction ?
