As you may have read here, I painted our family room bright green a couple of weeks ago. You can kind of see a rectangle of scuffed hardwood in front of the fireplace in the picture below – that’s the traffic path around the ottoman.
The floor is being refinished this week. Although there was a bit of a delay yesterday, because our two dogs decided that Luigi, the nice little Italian man who was alone in the house refinishing the floor, was an evil intruder who had to be dealt with. The two entrances to the family room are blocked off so the dogs can’t get in. When Luigi tried to get out of the family room to get his supplies, the dogs went into evil guard dog mode and wouldn’t let him out. Eventually Luigi decided to bail out through a window and go home. He came back around 1:30 when he knew I’d be home for lunch. I mean, seriously, do these look like killer dogs?
Anyway, hubby finally agrees that we really should put an area rug in the family room to protect the floor. I’ve been looking for a red rug with pattern, and found these two. The one on the left is the Emmeline from Korhani, and the one on the right is Infinite Concept from Alexanian.
But when I saw this carpet (also from Alexanian), I loved it. It’s bright, bold, fun, and would really give some life to the room. It doesn’t look as orange in real life, and although it doesn’t have any bright green in it, the colours in the rug really work well with the paint colour.
The furniture in the room is pretty plain – two brown leather chairs, brown leather ottoman, and taupe microfibre sofa. Pillows on the sofa & chairs are are useless because the dogs keep knocking them on the floor. And I like the simple white horizontal blinds, so there won’t be any patterned window treatments. Which means the carpet is going to be the hit of pattern in the room.
I’d love to hear your thoughts on the three rugs – which one would you go with and why?

I like the first one for myself personally BUT I think your heart is going with the 3rd one so I say go for it. It has lots of pattern and the blue in the rug will play nicely off the wall colour and the browns!!

...The multicoloured one!
ReplyDeleteVery fun rug that you have found! I love all the bold color, I think it's perfect for the room! :)

Oded agrees with me, really like the bold, fun geometric carpet, and know that with your excellent artistic eye, you'll make it all come together beautifully! As an aside, BTW, can't resist telling you how much I enjoyed your writing here about the adventures of Luigi! ;) very cute!
ReplyDeleteWill the killer dogs be napping upon this carpet, if so pick the one that shoes the least dog fur !!
ReplyDeleteI would go with Infinite Concept, I think it goes well with the art work on your mantlepiece. They are all lovely though!
ReplyDeleteI like the third carpet from Alexania. It would definitely wake up the browns and the taupes, plus if that artwork on the mantle stays, the reds will pop and the yellows in the carpet will draw out the yellows in the painting.
ReplyDeletePoor Luigi!
ReplyDeleteI love the rug you picked!
I LOVE the Emmeline one, but I don't have any great reasoning behind it other than it would be fun to build around and I like the complementary color scheme it would build:)
ReplyDeleteThe one you found looks like it will be fun and I like the geometric design. Gives the room some life. I really do like the first one but don't think it is right for the room - maybe too formal or too burgundy red...
ReplyDeleteI feel nbr. three may be the perfect one for you Kelly as it does have one of your favourite colors in it, being that in the purple family. Chances are it would also tie in with the hits of color in your other rooms as well. (ie: Red/orange kitchen light pendants, the plum in your Mstr. Bedroom, the blue in the Spare BdRm, and the purple ottoman in your office.)

P.S: I do hope you keep those vicious beasts of yours chained, or I will be calling By-Law. Wink, wink!
The first one if speaking to me. Can't wait to see the finished project. Happy weekend!
ReplyDeleteI personally like the third, guess I'm partial to swirly patterns. But I do like the third too. I love the colour blocks and variety.
ReplyDeleteI like the first one {on the left} but I am always drawn to traditional patterns. The room is going to look fantastic! I would like new rugs but the ones I like won't work with my chocolate lab who always insists that the rug is a great place to lay after running in the dirt outside instead of on his lovely dog bed I made just for him!
ReplyDeleteWait kelly! I'd like to chime for the first rug. I think it complements your wall color the best. Can't wait to see what you picked!
