WOW!! A great big THANK YOU to everyone who’s joined me here at JAX does design. I can’t begin to tell you how much I appreciate it! And I’m so touched by all of your wonderful comments :-) Blog buddies are the best! An extra thank you to Kat from Emptynester for being my very first commenter, and to Caleigh for sending me pics of her pug, Louie, to add to my Furry Friends page. You have to check him out, he’s adorable!
Hmmm… so I guess I’m going to have to write something for you to read! ;-) OK, how about this – mirrors.

Mirrors add sparkle to a room. They can make a smaller room appear larger. When a mirror reflects a window, it helps bring more light into the room. Wherever you hang a mirror, make sure it reflects something beautiful…

I absolutely love the look of layered mirrors. They’re so glam, and there’s a depth to them that you don’t get with one mirror. This layered bathroom mirror is especially beautiful, because there’s also a sconce installed on the mirror – upping the look from glam to super-glam!

An ornate gold mirror looks great layered on top of a modern mirrored chimney breast.

Here’s another gold mirror layered with a large white mirror.

And how freaky is this – here’s the exact same mirror layered against two simple white mirrors. (Hmmmm… even the vase on the mantel is the same in both pictures.) The sleek black mantel and zebra print ottoman give this room a modern feel.

How sexy is this room with layered mirrors – even the mantel is mirrored!

Here’s an oval mirror layered on a rectangular mirror. Do you see the triangle created by the stools, lamps, and gold mirror? I think the triangle helps carry your eye right from the floor to the top of the mirror, and it lets you take in all the pretty elements in this vignette.

Here’s a super-ornate mirror layered on top of a simple mirror. Don’t you love the effect it creates? :-)

Oooh-la-la, this turquoise mirror is hot!

Another mirror & sconce combination. I love this look!

More layered mirrors in the bathroom – maybe his & hers?

I posted this picture from Carter & Company on DesignTies recently. It’s so beautiful, I have to include it here!
Another way to layer mirrors is by leaning them against each other. This has a more casual look and feel. And it’s a lot easier than hanging them!

Layer leaning mirrors on the floor – why not?!
Here’s a twist on layered mirrors – artwork hung on top of a mirror.

How about this for a sweet look – mirrors hung in front of windows. This is the room that got me hooked on this look. It’s Patricia Gray’s bathroom, and it’s beautiful!
I think I love the concrete vanity in this bathroom as much as the mirror!

This one is quite charming :-)

Heheheh! These mirrors look like eyes! OMG, is it just me, or do the mirrors and vanity look like a frog face?!
The round mirror helps soften all the square lines in this bathroom.

And finally, you can’t have a make-up vanity without a mirror!

(Karen at Ocean Soul left a comment mentioning the mirrors in the bathroom in the Coastal Living Ultimate Beach House. Thanks Karen – here they are!)
Hubby and I did a little project on the weekend inspired by my love for layered mirrors. I’ll be posting about it on Monday, along with instructions on how a professional creates this look and how we did it. It sometimes helps to have an uber-analytical hubby!
So what do you think – would you incorporate layered mirrors into your home?
Once my kids are grown, I might, but for now - no way! I love the second one in the post, and the turquoise one - just gorgeous!
ReplyDeletePS - you need a button!
I love that neat little shell mirror via HGTV. I have three large mirrors in my home! Layered? I'm not sure.
ReplyDeleteI LOVE mirrors! We even lined our cupola with mirrors to reflect light (and the trees, etc.) Yup, love mirrors! franki
ReplyDeleteWow, I had no idea how much I love this layered mirror look! Great pics - especially that turquoise mirror!!
ReplyDeleteYes, I am definitely down with this trend!! I love the look of layered mirrors and I hope I can incorporate it in my own home one day. For now I guess I better stick to the other 150 projects going on at home... :)

Did you see the mirrors in the upstairs bathrooms of Coastal Livings Ultimate Beach House? They put the mirrors in the windows too! It was quite the lovely effect, but my favorite layering was definitely the rustic look from "A Beach Cottage" Sigh. Old vintage mirrors, imperfectly perfect!
ReplyDeleteI wish I could mount a mirror (or layered mirrors?) over our fireplace... such a fantastic look!!
ReplyDeleteLooking forward to your Monday post - I'm curious!
Victoria
Oh sure I'd definitely layer mirrors. I especially loved the idea in the photo by Room Remix with the full wall of clear mirrors in front of the desk. That's a great idea.
ReplyDeletePS Thanks for changing the settings so I can post :)
I have always loved the layering of mirrors. Thank you for sharing so many beautiful examples of this effect. I have wanted to do that for ages. Just haven't made the move. Have to get a glass co. to install the hangers. I just keep putting it off. I have gone to the extent of choosing the mirrors. You may have just lit a firecracker under me.
ReplyDeleteI am your newest follower. Mine is not a design blog but I may just make you laugh or smile. Hope you will follow me as well. Thanks, Ginger
I love your new spot, Kelly! Thank you for your words of support. I really appreciate it.
ReplyDeleteYou do the best picture posts! Congrats on the new blog - love the banner. As for the mirror supply, I can't believe you didn't beg to borrow some REAL mirrored beauties: mirror shards set in plywood? No? You sure?
ReplyDeleteLove the layered mirrors but would never do a mirror wall in my own home (hello, fingerprints!) I'm dying over that chair in the bathroom from Girl Meets Glamour.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the translation. Now if you can come along with me! I am not sure how my southern drawl will work.
ReplyDeleteWe are anxious to say the least about the current situation. Many times what you see on the news is not as widespread as it seems. Hope this is the case.
I am sure I will have lots of stories.
Thanks for the visit this morning. We will visit again soon. Ginger
I enjoyed looking at all the mirrors in this post and all the different ways to use them and especially enjoyed not seeing my reflection looking back at me while doing so! The older I get, the less I want to look into mirrors, LOL :)
ReplyDeleteCongrats, Kelly! Love, love, love it! How exciting! How will you ever have time to operate two blogs?? I can barely manage one. Anyway, I'm very excited for you. It's always nice to start something new! :)
ReplyDeleteKelly
Hello there! I just stumbled across your blog for the first time and thought I would say hi. I love the design you have going, and for a new blog you seem very well put together. I'm impressed.
ReplyDeleteI have a blog as well, about the art world, but my history is with interior design (studied it and worked in it) so I love to hear what people are saying about the industry. I hope we get to run into each other more often in the blogging community!

Who knew mirror-on-mirror could look so good? Lovely post!
ReplyDeleteLove layered mirrors. Cute header Kelly.
ReplyDeleteThese are all great looks. I'll be adding a new mirror in my bedroom soon - these are great inspiration! Hmmm...
ReplyDeleteLove love mirrors, I always have one or two in a room. I love the way they reflect the light, not so much for my image but they do remind me of a window, Kathysue
