This or That: Vanity backsplash

After last week’s This or That, I still haven’t made a decision whether to hang one large or two smaller mirrors above the bathroom vanity. The vote was pretty much split down the middle, which is right where I am! But this week’s This or That will likely help determine which mirror configuration to go with….

Do you prefer a vanity backsplash that goes right up to the ceiling, or a more traditional backsplash that goes 6-12” up the wall?

  1. Ahhh - Kelly! You're so sweet for including my bath design! (Do you want a better quality pic? Let me know!)

One thing to consider - wall paint color. If you don't tile your backsplash up to the ceiling, you will have the opportunity to see more of your wall color. (Don't suppose you know that that is yet, do you?)

Another thing I would think about...what's happening in the rest of the space? How mush "accent" tile are you doing in the bath/floor/shower? If you are using just a small amount in these areas you could go big with the backsplash. But if you have a lot of "accent" tile planned for the other areas of the bath, then I would keep the backsplash more minimal.

(Geez - did that make sense? I hope so!)

    Thanks again!

  2. I love the look of tile that goes to the ceiling. In my most recent bath I opted for a more traditional, low backsplash... but that's because we were on a budget. If I'd had my way, the tile would have extended way up high!! :-)

  3. I would prefer a look that goes all the way to the ceiling if the budget allows for it and the tile is amazing. But I think it become personal preference and design style!

  5. Totally depends on the overall look of the bathroom...

  6. I think the wall of backsplash looks "newer" than the traditional strip of backsplash. But ... what Anne and Kelly said: it depends on the rest of the room. Good advice.

  7. Hmmm... I'm definitely thinking the "that"! I like the traditional strip!

  8. it's going to be so interesting to see where readers come on this one. For me, I really like the bathroom backsplash that goes all the way up the wall. Even if it's 'split' like the green one, I love the full 'line' that goes all the way up. But that's maybe because I like things that flow all the way along without interruption. Can't wait to see what others say.

  9. Jumping on the band-wagon I have to agree with everyone else who has expressed 'it depends on what is happening in the rest of the space'. With that said, my personal preference for a substantial backsplash is one that is the same continued material as the counter .... and/or ..... I prefer none at all. -Brenda-
