A big thank you to Aubrey at All Things Bright and Beautiful for asking me to participate in her How To Make Your Home Your Own series last week. I was so overwhelmed and touched by all the positive comments about my home, and I discovered so many wonderful blogs I didn’t know about as I made the blog rounds to thank everyone.
Whew, that was an action-packed week! I was on holiday last week and spent most of it at the cottage. We had a little family reunion on Saturday with way too much food and lots of chatting and laughs :-) Between the partying and the swimming and kayaking and everything else going on, I managed to squeeze in a little bit of magazine reading. I came across two totally different bedrooms that I really adore. First, this bedroom designed by Bories and Shearron is featured in the July/August 2011 issue of House Beautiful:
How yummy is that glossy dark blue ceiling? It’s painted Hague Blue from Farrow & Ball, and it just lifts the room to a whole different level. It gives the room a cozy feel, and love how it reflects the mirror and artwork behind the bed. The shade of red on the red blanket is perfect – a real, true, gorgeous red. And the artwork above the side table is great, especially the photo of the plane.
And then in the June 2011 issue of Livingetc, I saw this bedroom:
I cannot begin to tell you how much I LOVE that bed! I’m a big fan of upholstered beds, and this one is just so gorgeous. The big & bold floral fabric is fantastic, and I love the shape of the headboard. Like sleeping in a big hug :-) And the colour palette is just so pretty and relaxing – well, except for the bright yellow curtains. They kinda work, though.
Which bedroom do you prefer?

I can't even pick between those two pieces of bedroom amazingness...I'm so loving that glossy ceiling and you are right, that picture of the plane is perfection in that room! But my oh my, bold patterned upholstered bed, come to mama! And I love the dash of bright yellow...
ReplyDeleteP.S. Thank you so much for the sweet words, your post had the most comments of the week, so I'm pretty sure that means that everyone was in love (c: You are welcome back any time, girl, it was a pleasure!
I am a blue girl all the way! I think I would have to change out those yellow panels. Too bright for me in the morning!
ReplyDeleteI am loving that glossy blue ceiling, though, but then of course it's blue!
Two very different rooms, but both equally gorgeous.
ReplyDeleteI'm drawn to the top one a bit more though...I'd say my style tends to be a bit more masculine than feminine.
They are both beautiful, but I think the first bedroom wins out. I'm really loving the mix of preppy, somewhat country, yet glam at the same time. Not sure if I could paint my ceiling black though. Definitely jealous of your upcoming trip to Maine and the weather you'll have compared to the jungle it has been here in DC!
ReplyDeleteLove the first bedroom....I think. Not sure I would enjoy waking up every morning only to have a black ceiling starting off my day.
ReplyDeleteGreat colour in both rooms but more muted is more me for my bedroom.
ReplyDeleteChoosing between these two amazing rooms is nearly impossible! LOVE the bed as well, the huge flower print fabric is so pretty and fun, and I actually love the yellow curtains too. But I think I would feel most comfortable in the first room, I just LOOOOVVVE the glossy blue ceiling!!! And the airplane art.. just perfect for this boyish room. I could definitely live in that one =)

Though I appreciate the glossy ceiling and calm of the first bedroom, I would feel very happy in the second. Love the height of the ceiling, the airiness and lightness and though I wouldn't likely choose yellow curtains, the room works in a lovely, refreshing way! ;)
ReplyDeleteNow here's a man's view... "I do like the aeroplane, but don't like the red theme of the first image, though the room seems very balanced and well coordinated and has been well thought out. The second setting doesn't work for me. I find the large floral print of the upholstery too large and feel that it takes over the room in terms of balance. The floral theme, from what is shown, isn't carried through the room. I would have used a smaller flower for the headboard and carried the theme in a triptych above the bed or elsewhere; and suggest the use of different pillows as these colours don't work for me." Now, that was unexpected! There you have it, two views, one couple! Hey, Kelly, a new blog concept! ;) Pam and Oded
Both lovely and gorgeous....
ReplyDeleteyou're right, very different,
but both has its own appeal.
I'm leaning more on the second bedroom,
I kinda like the laid back and easy feel of this space ♥
wonderful! both of them altough so different. love the ceiling. hugs
ReplyDeleteYep, I fell pretty hard for that first room in this month's House Beautiful too :) I think it's my pic just because of the glam factor. And pulling off a lacquered ceiling is pretty darn impressive in my mind!! Hugs,
