I really like round pedestal tables. The fact that there are no legs to get in the way is great. And it somehow feels more social to sit around a round table than a square table. Here are just a few examples of some beautiful round pedestal tables…

A good quality solid wood pedestal table isn’t cheap – they go for around $1,000. But that’s nothing compared to my million dollar pedestal table! ;-)
A little while back, I posted about my $2,000,000 chair makeover here.

When you’ve got chairs worth a couple of million bucks, what else would you pair them with, but a table worth a million or so, right? ';-) Not long after I bought the chairs, I picked up a round oak table from Kijiji for $75. Hubby took the table apart before I took before pics, but it looked exactly like this:
My original plan was to sand it down a bit, prime & paint it, and voila, a games table to pair up with the chairs. But if you read about my chair makeover, you know my hubby likes to make things way more complicated than they need to be. He pulled the table apart and there I was again, sanding my guts out. Ugh. Anyway, it occurred to me that seeing as the table was in pieces, it probably wouldn’t be too hard to change the base. I wasn’t crazy about the four little legs, so asked hubby if he could create a base with bun feet instead. Like this:

Surprisingly, he was open to the idea of making a new base – any excuse to use power tools, I guess ;-) I forgot to take in-progress pics, but basically all I did was sand, stain, and varathane the top, column, and the base parts that hubby made.
I used the same dark brown stain and varathane that I used on the chairs. And the table was transformed from this:
To this:
Cost breakdown for table:
- Table: $75.00
- Stain: $0 (already had)
- Varathane: $0 (already had)
- Oak to make base and feet: $30.00
- Plugs to fill holes from old legs: $3.27
Grand total: $108.27
Total cost for table and four chairs: $282.70
Plus labour, of course!
I’m thrilled with how the table and chairs came out. Now we just need to tidy up a corner in the loft for them, and then they’ll be ready for games night :-)
I’m linking my table makeover up to Metamorphosis Monday over at Between Naps on the Porch. The blog party starts around 9:00 Sunday night – don’t miss it! I’m also joining the Linking Party at Passionately Artistic.
Your wall colour is fabulous and that table is un-recognizable....just a fabulous transformation.

I like a round table too. The fourth photo down, gives me an idea about how a lantern might look over our dining room table.
ReplyDeleteGreat job on your table!
Thanks for stopping by.
Fantastic job!!! And my heart did a little skip when I saw "my dream dining room" at the beginning of your post :-)!!
ReplyDeleteI'd love to join you for game night, but playing at a $1,000,000 table while sitting on a $2,000,000 chair - the stakes might be a little over my limit LOL!!!
Absolutely Fabulous transformation Kelly!! That gorgeous table and those fantastic chairs will look terrific sharing a space with Charles ;-)

Most times, stores would charge at least triple what you spent !! Wow - I'm impressed with your endeavours !!
ReplyDeleteI love your table. I also agree round tables are more social. I'm your next door neighbor on BNOTP, Met. Monday. Stop and take a look, Sheila @ Raggedykingdom.blogspot.com
ReplyDeleteGorgeous! I didn't even know you could change out feet. Thanks for sharing. How I want a game table! :)
ReplyDeleteYou are truely amazing!!! The dark table is so WOW in your green room. Love it!!!!
ReplyDeleteLove it Kelly! I've seen that table all over the place, but your transformation is fantastic. Props to hubby for all the hard work! Now onto that stair rail, right?
ReplyDeleteFAN TAS TIC Kelly. Love the new base and bun feet. Not sure I can hang out with you anymore. Your newly acquired 'million dollar' furnishings are putting mine to shame. However, counting my pennies now for game night.
ReplyDeleteI am a total sucker for a round table. We have a 36" bistro style in the kitchen that sits four perfectly, a 72" in the dining room that required a 36" lazy Susan because no one could reach the center and that seats 10, and we have a 48" on the screened porch. The beauty of a round table is that you can always squeeze in another person. Loved you table choices!
ReplyDeleteGood job..those tables are heavy ..beautiful transformation and project.
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing.
Wow, it turned out amazingly!! And I can't believe you have that beautiful vignette for under $300!
ReplyDeleteLove it ~ well done. My favorite table is my round one, too!

You are so very talented Kelly - and cheap - I love it!
ReplyDeleteYour husband did a fantastic job on the new table base (but then again he did a fantastic job curving the chair backs too didn't he) You'll have to hang on to him...men with power tools that know how to use them are keepers! LOL
ReplyDeleteEverything looks absolutely lovely. Both of you should be quite proud.
You sure can do magic!
ReplyDeleteLove your images too ♥
Kelly,
ReplyDeleteWhat a show stopper. You and hubby are just blazing the trail on redesigning something old and making it new. Wonderful project!

Wow!!! I'm super impressed! My parents have an oak table that color, and I've been encouraging them to stain it dark... I think this will convince them!
ReplyDeleteFABuLOUS tables!!!
ReplyDeleteYou are putting me to shame Kelly with all of your completed DIY's! :) The table looks amazing and I love that wall colour!
ReplyDeleteOMG your table looks amazing!! I love that you changed the feet, it looks so much sleeker and taller now, and the color is fantastic. When will you start renting out your hubby for DIY work? LOL!!

I love how your table turned out!!! Actually I love the whole setting. Could you please tell me what brand/color the green is. It's just what I've been picturing for my upcoming new kitchen. Thanks justsimplym@gmail.com
ReplyDeleteHi Kelly
ReplyDeleteI have seen the chairs makeover and liked it a lot. You did an amazing job with this table. I love the contrast between green walls and black table and chairs. We like round tables a lot and have one in the kitchen.
Cheers.
