A horse is a horse of course & a Giveaway!

Diane ListenGive me food and drink; and care for me. And when the day's work is done, shelter me. Give me a clean bed and leave me not too small a place in the stable. Talk to me, for your voice often takes the place of reins. Be good to me and I shall serve you more gladly and love you.

Ever since I was a kid, I’ve loved horses. I finally was able to live my dream of having a horse about 8 years ago. Then a few years ago, I fell off, broke a few ribs and punctured a lung, and the dream pretty much ended there! I don’t have my horse anymore, but I have a beautiful picture of her on my gallery wall in the hallway, and memories of lots of good rides together (a couple of not-so-good ones too!)

As you may have noticed, equine art is a huge trend in home decor at the moment. At IDS11 last week, there were some artisans displaying big & beautiful equine art {sorry, I don’t know the names of the artisans. If anyone does, please let me know!}

What makes equine art so appealing? Well, a big part of it is because it isn’t really masculine or feminine – horses appeal to both sexes. They also appeal to both children and adults. And a picture of  horse in the dining room or living room is sort of unexpected – not the more typical landscape or abstract painting.

I’m planning to hang a piece of equine art in my hopefully-soon-to-be-finished dining room. I’ve narrowed the choices down to two photographs by Diane Schuller, an amazing photographer in Grand Prairie, Alberta. Diane recently decided to specialize in animal photography, with her focus on dogs and horses. Here are just a few of Diane’s beautiful photos…
