Last year, my poor hydrangea plant was a total dud. Two sad looking little flower heads, and that was it. I have a feeling the crazy warm weather we had in March totally messed it up and sent it into some sort of flower shock. Well, this year it’s back and better than ever! And totally a case of multiple personality disorder – it can’t decide what colour it wants to be, so it’s every colour!
The blooms aren’t 100% open yet, but I’m so excited about the gorgeous flowers that I went a little snap-happy :-) There’s pink…
Pinky-purple…
Purple…
Purpley-blue…
And some flower heads have all the colours!
Not too many of my favourite blue blooms, but that’s OK – I’m just happy I have flowers this year! Here’s a blue bloom from a couple of years ago…

What’s your favourite flower?
Awesome! I loooove hydrangeas! You get the best of all worlds this year ;)
ReplyDeleteI love hydrangeas! I'm trying to grow one from a cutting I took, it's taking forever!!!
ReplyDeleteI have always loved hydrangeas, especially the ones that have blue flowers it's my favorite.

Kelly I have loved hydrangeas , especially this color , in spanish the name is "hortensias"
ReplyDeleteThose are gorgeous. I use to have some when I lived in California. It would be really difficult to grow them here.
ReplyDeleteI was told that these hydrangeas wouldn't survive our cold winters. Well, I've had the plant for close to 10 years now, and it's made it through every winter so far :-) And I don't do anything special to protect it. It doesn't always have the amazing flowers that it has this year, but it's still alive, which is pretty exciting!

Those are gorgeous! Hydrangeas are my absolute favorite!!
ReplyDeleteOurs turn purple-bluey ... hmmm, maybe they r mad, sad, pissed off that we haven't watered them :)Your all-color-combo is soooo beautiful! My fave flowers are peonies, but we do have lots of hydrangeas .. last year I attempted to change their color ... was told to add used coffee grind ... which I did, and flowers did NOTHING (besides probably be pissed off that I am messing with it's soil ..hence still purple-bluey. My fave color in hydrangeas pink. I think if I purchased a bunch, then may ALSO turn purple-bluey ..eek!
ReplyDeleteAda, check out the link in my post that explains how to change the colour of your hydrangeas. For pink hydrangeas, you need to reduce the acid in the soil. You can do this by adding lime to the soil.
DeleteGood luck!
