It was too good to be true – I had to delay painting the loft till Monday. I got to thinking too much about the paint colour, and ended up getting myself all discombobulated. Plus my blog friends {who also happen to be awesome designers!} Kelly Berg at Story & Space and Dawna Jones at Dawna Jones Design made suggestions that got me thinking…. Kelly suggested a slate blue or charcoal grey, and Dawna suggested a navy blue.
Kelly sent me these inspiration pictures, which I love. The orange accents in this first picture look amazing with the dark slate blue walls.

Gorgeous, yes? So do you see my dilemma?! I’m really loving the idea of going with a dark slate or navy blue. Which means poring through my PARA Paints fan deck to find the perfect shade of dark & sexy blue between now and Monday morning. My painter friend will say something way worse than “Tsk, tsk, Kelly, Kelly, Kelly….” if ask him to postpone again! These are the top runners at the moment – still looking for the right navy blue.
What’s your favourite blue?
My vote is for distant thunder...it's grey and blue together...and it has a great name, which is often a very important factor for me when picking paints. :)
ReplyDeleteDistant Thunder is my pick too !!
ReplyDeleteI love the deep richness of the navy walls in pictures 4 and 5...and I'm not quite sure the Coastal Views swatch hits it, but it would appear to be the closest and gets my vote.
ReplyDeleteI love either one of the first 2 Kelly. All I can say is that Navy's tend to have a little less gray in them then slates do, and although I think that either Navy or Slate will be stunning, you might find that less gray in the color, although still dark, will be just a bit more on the brighter side then a slate. Benjamin Moore has a navy I use all the time and it is called Hale Navy, maybe if you got that sample and matched it with something from Para you would have a better luck.
ReplyDeleteNo matter what you choose I think you are for sure headed in the right direction with the color, your furniture is going to look stunning as the photos show above! Good luck can't wait for the end result!
One other color I recommend. It's also BMoore, it's called Gray. I painted my powder room thinking it was charcoal, and it has a definite blue undertone to it, making it more slate.
ReplyDeleteI love the first two, but still leaning towards the lighter of the two - Distant Thunder. And between dark slate or navy, I really like the slate... Monday, Monday!
ReplyDeleteOh, Kelly. You didn't lie!! Just took a step back to re-evaluate. No shame in that!! ;)
ReplyDeleteThanks for the little shout-out. I was happy to help. I do love that first image by Martha.*sigh* Perhaps Distant thunder will work? So hard to tell through our monitors...
Gorgeous colors! I'm loving the Ageless Rockies! I really want to put a bold dark color like this on our large living room wall!
ReplyDeleteI vote for a deep navy.. like in that last picture! Don't worry about the colour being too dark, you've got windows from up top that will cure all those worries!
ReplyDeleteAnd yes, I totally understand what you are worrying about as we're currently redo-ing our basement and I am also leaning toward darker colours. Will post once we have everything up!
Go for the navy!
