Here comes the sun!

Woot! Finally, the sun is shining and it’s the perfect day to enjoy being outside :-) This is what I’ll be doing today:

carwash1{Do you have any idea how hard it is to find a carwash image that doesn’t have girls in bikinis?!}

And hopefully we’ll get this baby out of the garage and back on the road:

mx6{That’s our MX6 on the left – when you drive a smart car, it’s fun to have some power over the summer!}

And then we’ll be eating these for supper:

And maybe one of these for dessert:

April showers better bring May flowers

Rain, rain, rain – if it isn’t snowing here, it’s raining. And sometimes it does both at the same time. What’s up with that?! April has been a wet month in Ottawa – that better mean that May is going to be sunny and full of beautiful flowers! Till then, here are some floral-inspired designs to brighten yet another gloomy April day…

I discovered Fiona Douglas’s work over at TheLENNOXX. The floral fabric against the deep blue wall is so gorgeous, and love the sweet pompom trim.

The floral cushion is a small detail with big impact.

Flowers are blooming everywhere in Fiona’s pretty bedroom.

If that doesn’t cheer up a rainy day, I don’t know what will! Oh, maybe more floral-inspired rooms. These two feature Osborne & Little’s Maharani pattern.

So many fab colours in this room, all grounded by the colourful floral carpet.

Flowers & polka dots & stripes – a great combo of patterns.

If you can’t commit to an all-over floral design, then why not add a few cheery floral pillows to your arm chair or sofa.

The $1,000,000 table makeover

I really like round pedestal tables. The fact that there are no legs to get in the way is great. And it somehow feels more social to sit around a round table than a square table. Here are just a few examples of some beautiful round pedestal tables…

A good quality solid wood pedestal table isn’t cheap – they go for around $1,000. But that’s nothing compared to my million dollar pedestal table! ;-)

A little while back, I posted about my $2,000,000 chair makeover here.

When you’ve got chairs worth a couple of million bucks, what else would you pair them with, but a table worth a million or so, right? ';-) Not long after I bought the chairs, I picked up a round oak table from Kijiji for $75. Hubby took the table apart before I took before pics, but it looked exactly like this:

My original plan was to sand it down a bit, prime & paint it, and voila, a games table to pair up with the chairs.  But if you read about my chair makeover, you know my hubby likes to make things way more complicated than they need to be. He pulled the table apart and there I was again, sanding my guts out. Ugh. Anyway, it occurred to me that seeing as the table was in pieces, it probably wouldn’t be too hard to change the base. I wasn’t crazy about the four little legs, so asked hubby if he could create a base with bun feet instead. Like this:

Surprisingly, he was open to the idea of making a new base – any excuse to use power tools, I guess ;-) I forgot to take in-progress pics, but basically all I did was sand, stain, and varathane the top, column, and the base parts that hubby made.

I used the same dark brown stain and varathane that I used on the chairs. And the table was transformed from this:

To this:

Cost breakdown for table:

  • Table: $75.00
  • Stain: $0 (already had)
  • Varathane: $0 (already had)
  • Oak to make base and feet: $30.00
  • Plugs to fill holes from old legs: $3.27

Grand total: $108.27

Total cost for table and four chairs: $282.70

Plus labour, of course!

I’m thrilled with how the table and chairs came out. Now we just need to tidy up a corner in the loft for them, and then they’ll be ready for games night :-)

I’m linking my table makeover up to Metamorphosis Monday over at Between Naps on the Porch. The blog party starts around 9:00 Sunday night – don’t miss it! I’m also joining the Linking Party at Passionately Artistic.

Pretty in pastel

easter eggs

Technically, spring arrived a month ago. But you wouldn’t know it by the SNOW that we had yesterday. OK, not a lot and it melted pretty much as soon as it landed, but still… after 5 months of winter, we don’t need snow in April!

Anyway, in honour of our pseudo-spring and Easter weekend, here are some rooms that are pretty in pastel, starting with a few from House to Home
